The Autumn 2026 Hakodate Bar-Gai (40th edition) on Sunday, September 6, 2026, will be held in the western district at the foot of Mount Hakodate. The “Hakodate Seibu District Bar-Gai” is one of Hakodate’s signature food and drink events, taking place twice a year, in spring and autumn. A wide variety of restaurants will participate, including French and Italian restaurants, Japanese restaurants, cafés, bars, sushi restaurants, and hotel restaurants.

How to Enjoy the Event

After getting a ticket, visitors can explore the historic district with a map in hand and enjoy a bar-hopping experience at their favorite establishments. Each ticket allows you to receive one specially prepared “pinchos” (snack/appetizer) and one drink at each participating venue. A total of 56 establishments will participate in the 2026 Bar-Gai.

Complimentary Food & Drink Services

On the day of the event, there will be more than just food and drinks, with various activities taking place throughout the neighborhood. In front of Jujigai (Municipal Enterprise Bureau), across from the Jujigai tram stop, visitors can enjoy complimentary wine, prosciutto, and other treats by presenting their ticket booklet. These services are available while supplies last.
Other events include flamenco dancing and “Kimono de Bar,” which make the most of the charming, historic streetscape of Hakodate’s western district.
