On the afternoon of April 28, the Hakodate Local Meteorological Observatory announced that cherry blossoms in Hakodate had reached full bloom. This is five days later than last year, but four days earlier than the average year (1991–2020).
The official cherry blossom viewing period, during which nighttime illuminations and the use of cooking fire are allowed at Goryokaku Park and Hakodate Park, runs until Tuesday, May 6. The city of Hakodate encourages the use of public transportation when going out.
