At 10:00 a.m. on April 18, the Hakodate Local Meteorological Observatory confirmed that five or more blossoms had bloomed on the Somei Yoshino sample tree at Goryokaku Park in Hakodate City and announced the “official cherry blossom opening.”
The Japan Weather Association forecasts that cherry blossoms in Hakodate will reach full bloom on April 21, although the timing may vary depending on temperatures.
In Hakodate Park, some trees have already begun to bloom, especially in sunny areas.
From here, the blossoms will quickly reach full bloom—ushering in the season when the city is dyed in cherry blossom colors.
